Lilacs are easy to grow and very fragrant. They thrive in a sunny location, in well-drained, fertile, humus-rich soil that is alkaline to neutral. To ensure abundant flowering, cut off all spent blossoms each year and prune the flowering stem back to a set of leaves, thus preventing seed formation, this will ensure flowers year after year.
